Archive part 2

Now onto the new stuff...
This is the "backroom" or "check in area" at the back of the 515 Grand River store. Not the local music sign, that's where we kept all the consignments that anyone would drop off. Which was a nice service for us to have as it allowed many struggling musicians to earn a few bucks. One name comes to mind: Fat Amy. Can you believe that guy was on television? As a matter of trivia I have that Beatles poster rolled up next to my desk at home.

The pianist Robert Taub became if not quite a fixture in 1998/1999 then at least a friend of the store. To hype that he would be in store shooting the shit with the common folk Larry's brilliant and frighteningly creative mind conceived the "head". Made of cardboard, yarn and sandpaper this was on display until Mr.Taub visited us. I think he saw it once and I was told when he did that he fixed his hair. His own hair, not the head's.

The real Bob Taub...

In 1998 the Beastie Boys released their CD Hello Nasty. While we didn't have a "midnight sale" at that point due to those crooked fuckers at Tower we did stay open until midnight for this release. For reasons that I cannot remember I cajolled Larry, he of the Classical Newletter fame(which I hope to get one or two of at some point and post, the man's a genius),, into creating a Russian announcement poster. We had one in english and one in Russian.

Seriously Mike, I have to take issue with your "shitty consignment" comment on local music. Being the local music "liason" (or "band-aid"), we had some very talented people on our local music wall. It was a beautiful service that WHR offered and we supported local music with all our hearts... maybe not YOUR heart, but many others.. Take it back. I mean it. Take it back.
lovingly blog-spanking you,
